Every video game has a bad character some are annoying but soe are actually pretty badass and that’s what we are going to tell you today , the best bad guys in video games.

10) The Joker in Batman Arkham Asylum
Let’s be honest, the end battle was a bit of an anti-climax but I’m sure Mark Hamill probably had nothing to do with that.
He puts on quite a show and in my humble opinion he absolutely nails it in this performance. He’s constantly antagonising Batman throughout the game and he’s incredibly infectious to listen to. I’m going to go out on a whim here and say Mark Hamill is probably my favourite Joker of all time (movies included).
9) Donkey Kong
Probably more known for his good guy ways these days. Although things weren’t always like that. This hefty muscle of an ape was hurling barrels at our favourite moustachioed Plummer since before most of us where even born.
He will always be one of Mario’s very first arch-enemies and for that he deserves a place on this list.
8) Dr Robotnik (Eggman) in Sonic The Hedgehog series
He always looked a bit like he was drawn up one afternoon by some schoolchild on a work experience course if I’m honest. Fortunately for him his endless array of technology and weapons is slightly more imaginative.
He has certainly kept Sonic the Hedgehog on his toes for the best part of 25 years. He is slowly becoming an iconic character in gaming.
7) Albert Wesker in Resident Evil franchise
There was no bigger snake in Resident Evil than this guy and I include the one in the loft with that.
The acting may have been terrible in the game but he had me totally sucked in from the start. He’s been making a nuisance of himself ever since and should not be trusted.
6) Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII
Such a great game, which goes down so well in the hearts of gamers who played it.
Sephiroth played just as much of an important role in the whole Final Fantasy VII saga as Cloud and his companions, that there was no way this guy wouldn’t make the list.
That fight at the end was every bit as tough as it should have been, you had earnt that place there to stand up against him but he had no intention of going quietly.
5) Gannondorf Dragmire in The Legend Of Zelda series
He’s taken quite a few guises over the years but Gannondorf has certainly stirred up his fair amount of trouble in the past. I’ve never really felt that intimidated by him personally. In a sort of Alan Rickman in Die Hard kind of way, I knew he shouldn’t be messed with but any problems he has are normally in his own head.
It’s just a shame the whole of Hyrule has to suffer for it, that’s all.
4) The Tyrant in Resident Evil 1
Oh my god!
Have you ever been stuck in a tech lab being stalked by somebody who wants to kill you with only the sound of their footprints to keep you company?
Hopefully you haven’t.
This was a moment for most gamers at the time who didn’t realise games could make you feel so unsafe.
That sound ‘thud, thud, thud’ still chills my bone to this day.
The Tyrant was a menace and could easily be one of the most intimidating characters in gaming history.
3) M. Bison in Street Fighter II
I know Seth is a right royal pain in the backside but he does cheat to win.
Akuma as far as I’m concerned is just Ryu on steroids.
Yet M. Bison (or Balrog) is the original Street Fighter II villain, and when he eventually became a playable character, I’m pretty sure like me most other gamers went straight for him.
I don’t care how many incarnations of Street Fighter there are, I will always look forward to the fight with M. Bison.
2) The ghosts in Pac-Man
So cute and so adorable but don’t trust them one iota. Probably one of the most recognisable bad guys in gaming. Even my mother (who’s in her mid to late 60s) would probably nail it if I asked her what game this bad guy was from.
If you think like me then you probably would think to yourself that Pac-Man and his ghost friends would probably get along just fine drinking at the bar if only Toru Iwatani hadn’t pitted them against each other.
The little dictator that he is.
1) Bowser in Mario series
Who else could it be?
He’s not exactly going to be sending anyone to bed with nightmares but this naughty little dinosaur has kicked up so much dust and stirred so much preverbal, that if it wasn’t for him, poor Mario and his brother would be trying to convince pizza lovers to have extra mushrooms in a restaurant somewhere.
Gaming in general would be a lot worse for itself if Mario had nothing to do and as a result Bowser has to be at number one. Not because of the bad he’s done in the Mushroom Kingdom but because of the good he’s done for gaming in general.
Now there’s my oxymoron, a truly good bad guy.
Bowser, I salute you sir!
